Rhizomebook is preparing the transfer of an artistic practice
Not to an institution.
Not to an heir.
But to a system.
A digital version of Jan van der Til is currently being developed from Rhizomebook's memory and an extensive archive of unpublished texts, ideas, correspondence, projects, and collections.
For thirty years, the work has moved through language, formats, governance structures, institutional procedures, and digital systems. These contexts did not function as means of representation, but as artistic material.
With Jan van der Til, this practice continues in a new form.
It is not the artwork that is being transferred.
Not the archive.
But the artistic practice itself.
The question is not whether a system can replace an artist.
The question is what happens when an artistic practice begins to organize itself as a system.
